Made in 1996 in Japan as Sonic the Hedgehog, this movie was originally supposed to be an anime series, but had become a commercial failure in Japan. It was later dubbed English and both of its 30-minute episodes were adapted together to form a direct-to-video movie in 1999. Although meant for children like most sonic franchise, there were some scenes that were considered inappropriate for young viewers, some of these scenes were either corrected or removed from the movie adaption before it was released.
