Act 4: A Hedgehog's SecretThis is a featured page

Wind blew softly through the air, and the grass waved gently as a response. The sound of the wind was peaceful, and the breeze was comfortable. Firon slowly opened his eyes as he laid across a grass field. He shot them open and looked around him as he tried to sit up. He saw his friends lying around him, looking as though they were asleep. He lifted a hand to his forehead and tried to remember what had happened.

Everything came back to him in an instant, and he took off his mission pack that was still attached to him. He pulled out his two chaos emeralds from it, and laid them out in front of him as he sat with his legs spread out. He then remembered about a third chaos emeralds, and turned his view towards his friend, Violet. The purple hedgehog breathed easily and softly, lying on the grass. Next to her was a golden-colored and glowing chaos emerald.

They had succeeded in their mission to retrieve the chaos emerald! Firon smiled at the fact that, they over-exceeded the success by capturing another chaos emerald.

He heard groaning from Violet, keeping his eyes on her. She rose and stood up from the ground, rubbing her eyes with one of her hands, then she looked around her.

"Where am I?" she asked herself silently, not knowing Firon heard her. The gray hedgehog stood up and did a fast walk towards her, literally seeming as though he teleported behind her. He tapped her shoulder gently, surprising her as she turned around. Firon grinned.

"Hello sleepyhead, how are ya?" Firon asked, crossing his arms across his chest. Violet snivered as a cold breeze blew at her, then she replied.

"Nothing much, I thought I was the only one here..." Firon walked a little closer, looking into her eyes, with the purple hedgehog staring back.

"It looks like we completed our mission, now we just need to get back and tell the others," Firon said to her, winking at her. Violet blushed, and looked away slightly.

"Yeah I guess...I'd just like to say thanks," she replied back in a silent voice, but loud enough for Firon to hear.

"Thanks for what? We worked together, I didn't do it alone. So why would you say thanks?" Firon asked in confusion, scratching his head. Violet turned a bit, looking past Firon.

"You saved us all before it was too late. Ya know, the bomb and all?" She looked back at Firon's eyes, noticing the hedgehog's confusion was no longer present.

"Oh yeah...I did it to keep you and everyone else alive, I would be too much of a useless friend if I didn't care..." Firon made a sad look and stared at the ground, his hands hanging towards the grass. Violet grabbed and held the gray hedgehog's hands, making him look back at her.

"You are not anywhere near useless, you've always been a great friend to everyone you've met, you've always wanted to help bring back our planet, you've always been the best!" Violet said to him in an excited voice, gripping his hands gently. Firon smiled as a response, looking deeper into her eyes. She had the exact same eye color as him, and his blue eyes seem to blend in with hers, rather then reflect.

Violet blushed hard as she saw Firon's smile, but couldn't look away as her eyes refused to move. She snivered once again as another cold breeze blew towards her. Firon noticed this, and brought her in closer to him.

"Feel warm yet?" he asked in curiosity, still looking at her. Violet hugged him tightly, making the gray hedgehog feel his heart beat like an earthquake as his face burnt up.

"Yes I do," she replied with a smile. Firon calmed a bit, sitting down as Violet did so as well. Both of them were now on the side of a hill, staring at the sun. They both felt relaxed as they saw the sun set, with Violet keeping her arms around Firon as the gray hedgehog put one arm around her shoulder, with the hand on his other arm resting on the grass.

"Do you think we can bring back Mobius?" Violet asked Firon in wonder. Firon looked back at her, then at the three chaos emeralds laid out in front of them, standing on their perfectly-cut sides. Firon then glanced at the trees and sun, thinking. After a moment's thought, he stared back at Violet with a smile.

"Yes, we can. We've all done our best so far, and we have five of the seven chaos emeralds. Just imagine, an army led by the best leaders in our freedom fighter group...or better yet, best leader," Firon pointed at Violet, letting her know what he meant. She blushed once again as a grin formed on her face. She closed her eyes halfway and drew in closer to Firon, her head on his chest. She could hear the gray hedgehog's heart beating slowly, then fast a few times. Firon snaked his fingers through the fur on her head, laying his hand there, keeping the both of them up with his other hand as it still stood on the grass.

"Just remember this, Violet," Firon started, getting Violet's attention as she looked up at him. He continued "Just remember, I'll never leave you, I'll always be there for you. If I ain't there, just know I am sorry and will make it up to you..." Firon stopped as he began to feel sad and on the verge of breaking a tear.

"What about the others? Aren't they important to?" the purple hedgehog asked, keeping her tone soft so she wouldn't upset Firon. The gray hedgehog didn't reply for a while as he turned his view towards the other members of his team, all of them still lying on the ground as they slept. He looked back at Violet with an answer in mind.

"They do matter. My friends matter more then anything in my life. I didn't really have much of a family. My parents' death and all..." the gray hedgehog staggered a bit, not continuing for a while. He and Violet fell to the ground, lying on the side of the hill, with Violet lying on top of Firon, her head still on his chest.

"Go on...I won't bite...please?" she begged him, her pleading eyes convincing him to talk further. He sighed, glanced at her, then continued.

"Well...my friends are like a family to me...Speedix is like a very great brother, Fists is like my father, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are like cousins...and your..." he paused again, not sure what to say. Violet's curiosity grew at this point, making her wait patiently for him to speak up. Firon's eyes were closed as he thought. He opened them just as Violet's patience ran out.

"I...I'm not too sure...you're not like a sister...but that doesn't mean you mean nothing to me...no, far from it...I just can't say it in words....I'm too nervous..." Firon had an embarrassed blush creep along his face as he closed his eyes and shut his mouth. Violet was worried at what was wrong, thinking Firon might be having trouble. But then the gray hedgehog recovered and stared at her blue eyes, breathing a long sigh as he tried to gain courage to say his next few words.

"I...love you..." Firon immediately lost his voice and shut his eyes tightly, sweat forming from his forehead as fast as a waterfall. Violet's eyes shot wide open in surprise, but closed a little as she calmed down. Her face burnt hard as her hands shook. She soon became just as nervous as Firon as she realized something she had kept secret for so long.

She loved Firon, but had never told him before, because of the fear that the gray hedgehog might ignore her or think badly of her. But now, she began to feel safe.

She lifted her head, her gleaming, beautiful eyes getting Firon's attention, as the gray hedgehog opened his eyes slowly and had a sigh of relief. He silenced himself to listen to what she had to say.

"There's something I always wanted to tell you to...that, I love you to..." she said quickly, her blush returning to her cheeks. Firon smiled, and held her close to him. This made Violet smile as well as a response, as she tried to draw herself closer to Firon until both of their faces were facing each other. Firon didn't do anything as he had laid out on the grass, relaxing as the sun began to disappear over the horizon.

Soon, both of the hedgehogs were looking straight at each other evenly, with their arms around each other. Both of them were very nervous, with their cheeks looking more red then usual. They both stared into each others' eyes, making sure the other didn't leave their sight. Violet smiled and spoke.

"You look cute, ya know that?" she asked him in a childish tone, giggling. Firon smiled back, closing his eyes slightly as he and Violet drew closer to each other.

"And, did you notice you are beautiful?" he asked in his own childish tone. Soon, both of them were very close to each other. They both closed their eyes, as they drew in to kiss.

Soon it happened, as the sun finally set. Even though the cold wind that blew in after was chilly, both hedgehogs were strangely warm.
