Act 3: Questioning ConclusionsThis is a featured page

It was a pitch black night, the cold breeze blowing softly through the trees of the Great Forest. Firon laid his back against a tree trunk, near a cliff side, looking at the uncountable number of shining stars in the night sky. He held his green chaos emerald in his sleeping hand, which dropped on the grassy ground, lazily.

Firon laid his head onto the soft bark of the tree, sighing. His thoughts were focused on the power of his chaos emerald. He was tired from running around the Freedom Fighter Camp all day, asking his friends about anything they knew on the chaos emeralds. He had also tried to access the power, but was never successful.

He was too excited about the power which the chaos emerald held within it. Violet had told him about its power to control time and space, or Chaos Control. He was fascinated by the endless number of possibilities he could do with the emerald's power, some of them being related in the war against Eggman. But his most clearly ideal thought, was the one about going back in time to stop Eggman from taking over Mobotroplis. Like most freedom fighters, Firon had a very disrespectful hate for the evil dictator, for the fact that Eggman had turned the once beautiful utopia of Mobotroplis into a metal-covered wasteland, where everything is cold and hard, with poison and toxins in the food and water.

However, most of Mobius was still pure and clean, the pollution only kept inside the city of Robotroplis because of the hard-working freedom fighters, who protected the Great Forest. Firon's thoughts were driven to the story of the Great Forest, the only place left on Mobius that has none of Eggman's influence upon it. Surrounding the forest was a huge desert to the west, a vast ocean to the east, snow-covered mountains to the south, and the gigantic city of Robotroplis to the north.

"At least some of Mobius is still in one piece..." Firon said silently, the words echoing in his head, making sure hope still lived within him. He turned his view to the green chaos emerald in his hand, loosening his grip on it. The emerald glowed with a bright green light, attracting Firon's attention like a moth to a bright light. He was curious about the emerald's nature of light and color, he looked at every corner and edge of the emerald. His thoughts soon became empty as he found nothing, his curiosity quickly turning to frustration.

"Why can't I use the power of the Chaos Emeralds?" Firon yelled in anger, gripping the chaos emerald then throwing it against a tree. The gray hedgehog stood up, calming himself. He turned his view away from the emerald to avoid further frustration. But his thoughts of power still corrupted him, bothering him to no end. He quickly slapped the sides of his face, shaking his head side-to-side, trying to get the thoughts out of his head. He quickly fell to the ground, his whole body laid out on the soft surface of the grass. He sighed.

"What use is a chaos emerald anyway? All it does is glow and makes people spread rumors about its so-called...ultimate power," Firon said in disgust, the thoughts finally leaving his mind. He laid undisturbed, the cold breeze comfortably making Firon doze off. Firon's eyes began to close as silence began to fill his ears.

"Firon? You here?" Firon's eyes quickly struck open, as he sprang up from the ground in a defensive stance. His eyes searched the trees and bushes, looking for any signs of life. His eyes were moving so fast, his irises and pupils nearly disappeared. He soon calmed down as he saw a purple hedgehog walking out from behind a bush.

"Oh, it's just you, Violet..." Firon brought down his guard, still glancing at the purple hedgehog, who walked slowly towards him.

"You still got your emerald?" she asked eagerly, her eyes full of question and curiosity. Firon didn't reply, but simply pointed to his green chaos emerald which laid on its side near the tree that got hit by it. A loud gasp was heard from Violet as she hurriedly rushed over and picked the emerald off the ground. She stared at Firon with disappointment.

"You shouldn't just throw such a rare and powerful item like this in the dust, Firon...you should know better then that," she said in an angered tone.

"That emerald doesn't work...I've tried to find out all I could on it, then I tried to access the power of the emerald itself, and nothing happened!" Firon yelled back in reply, turning his back on Violet. Violet looked down at the chaos emerald, its light growing dim, as if it were depressed.

"Perhaps you're not doing it right..." Violet's sentence suddenly stopped, causing Firon to turn around to see what held her up. He stared in shock as he saw a giant metallic spider hanging from one of the many trees, its fangs in Violet's neck, poison dripping from her wound. Violet let out small gasps as the metal spider's grip grew stronger. Firon stood stunningly, unable to move.

"Firon...take the...emerald..." Violet said weakly, tossing the chaos emerald to the ground, closer to Firon. The gray hedgehog regained himself, picking it up off the ground, rubbing the dust off of it, the emerald beginning to glow with a bright light.

"Use...Chaos...Control..." Firon could hear her voice growing fainter and weaker, he began to worry for his friend's fate. He quickly did what she told him to do, closing his eyes, doing his best to concentrate energy from the chaos emerald. He could feel the emerald's power entering his body, it felt strong at first, a bit too overwhelming for Firon. But soon, the energy entered his mind, giving him complete control over the power. His body glowed with a green aura as the chaos emerald's light grew intensely bright. Firon glanced at the metallic spider, hate in his eyes.

"Chaos Control!" Everything slowed down to the point where nothing moved at all: time was frozen. Firon quickly took advantage of this by running towards the metal spider, jumping at the metallic creature's face with his foot raised. He laid a majorly powerful kick to the creature's face, breaking the head off. Firon landed on the ground without a sound, turning his view to the spider and the poisoned Violet. At first nothing happened, but Firon knew why. He closed his eyes again, draining the energy from his body, back into the chaos emerald. Soon, everything around him began moving again. Slowly, then faster, until it reached normal.

The spider's head fell to the ground along with its entire body, releasing Violet from its fangs. The purple hedgehog fell violently to the ground, her eyes were wide with fear and her breathing turned to wheezing. Firon hurriedly came to her aid, picking her up off the ground.

"I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier, I'll get you to the Freedom Fighter Camp as soon as possible," he vowed to her. She simply nodded in response, Firon nodding back. The gray hedgehog got in a ready position, then zoomed off into the forest. He hoped he wouldn't be too late to save his friend.
